Lycee, the mysterious card game of moe schoolgirls, that has eluded gaijin for years...
Of course, with a strong desire to play comes a hack that makes it possible. Enter Open Canvas, the incarnation of multi-player Paint!
Open Canvas allows multiple users to draw on the same picture, at the same time. Each user has their own personal set of layers, so you'll never have to worry about other users erasing your work.
lycee.omoshiroi is the Lycee card database I've been developing for a few years now. It's a quick reference for known translations, and Rikai-chan for Firefox fills in the rest.
Skype is just a handy phone call simulator, which has decent reception and costs nothing to use.
What did we do with this?
I drew a field on the bottom layer. Then, I pull 7 cards from my deck in Canada, and Blitz pulls 7 cards from his deck in Japan. We then announce our plays over Skype and draw the new cards on the field with OC. Card status (like tapping and Support effects) can be drawn in and erased later. Card numbers can be used to look up special effects on "Lycee.omoi".
We've played 4-5 games this way, it's not quite as cumbersome as one might imagine at first. The biggest time sink is still reading the cards and doing the math, which is where it should be!!
The setup isn't quite as nice as being in the same room, but we're almost there...
